Image 4 was retained by Ware+Malcomb Architects to develop a brand interior package that reflected the unique culture of United Rentals. Nearly everything about this project was “large-scale”!

United Rentals Digs Its New Corporate Office Environment
Project Overview
United Rentals commissioned Los Angeles’ Ware+Malcomb Architects to design a new Corporate Headquarters in Stamford, CT. UR has a very strong culture around precision and performance. They also appreciate fine art and creativity.
As W+M developed the design, Image 4 was asked to specify materials that reflected precision and beauty, and to design structural presentations throughout the building. Our design team combined high-tech and organic materials, graphic representations of heavy equipment, and Brand Touchstones to present UR’s Authentic Brand.
The Executive Lounge area features a very large wall mural collage of construction equipment images, against which we placed a graphic panel of reclaimed barnwood and aged hardware. The Executive Lobby juxtaposes cast-resin panels with polished steel hardware and architecturally-specified lighting. Backpainted glass with text presenting UR’s corporate Values added depth to corporate break-out rooms, and stretch-canvas art-graphic prints of construction machinery accent wall areas through the building.
The lunchroom features individual prints of UR machines, grey-scale printed to brushed metal sheets, presenting a graphical and subtle display reminiscent of a library.
Both Ware+Malcomb and United Rentals were extremely pleased with the result of the project. The Brand Environment truly reflects UR’s culture and values.
